HAIRSTYLIST Yuko Yamashita, an expert in smooth and manageable hair, shares some simple techniques that anyone can put into practice for smooth, glossy hair: Hold a strand of your hair, and drape another over it. Smooth hair will slide down easily, while rough hair will not.
Use a brush with natural bristles. Plastic bristles create static that will make your hair frizz. Don’t brush excessively. It can damage your hair cuticles, leading to frizz. Brushing should only be done for massaging the scalp and releasing tangles.
Know your hair type before selecting products. Use hair dryers and straightening irons very carefully. These are the most common causes of hair damage. Shampoo should only be used to remove dirt from your scalp. Massage well into scalp to clean it thoroughly. Do not rub shampoo into your hair itself, as this will damage the hair. The lather from the shampoo is enough to clean the hair.
> When blow-drying, dry the scalp and roots well with the dryer, but leave the hair slightly damp. Overheating or excessive pressure on the hair can damage its cuticles. A good tip is to use a leave-in conditioner and not dry the hair completely; this will leave the hair very smooth once it dries.
Avoid applying styling products on your scalp, as this can cause hair fall. The products are meant for the hair shaft.Avoid using a tight hair tie constantly, as it will cause the hair to become thinner in that area. Too much tension on the shaft is bad for hair.
