Dealing With Excessive Sweating In Men

Posted in : Makeovers for Him

(added few years ago!)
Sweating can be a major issue for both sexes as it’s embarrassing and bothersome too. But with the help of certain tips men can control or get rid of this menace forever. Unless you're winning the marathon or you're in the throes of wild passion, there's nothing fun about excessive sweating. When there's too much sweat, it can make a handshake clammy and a crowded elevator terrifying. While we all physically need to perspire, excessive sweating can be obvious, embarrassing and altogether unpleasant. With all the so-called remedies and numerous antiperspirants on the market for excessive sweating, it's hard to know where to start and what to do if you find yourself in a sticky situation. If you think you have a serious medical problem, try your doctor. In the meantime, here are some strategies for preparing yourself in advance and adjusting on-the-fly to your excessive sweating problem.preparationUpgrade to prescription-strength deodorants. If you feel that your sweat is strong, then why not fight strength with strength? The deodorant soap that you're using coupled with a standard store-bought antiperspirant might not be enough. This is where prescription-strength deodorants and medical solutions enter the equation.  If your doctor doesn't think you have an illness or condition that requires substantial treatment, he can still prescribe something stronger than the in-store variety.  Drysol is the most popular option for excessive sweating and there are other prescription deodorants, specialized creams, and even tablets that are also available. Don't be afraid of trying different options, and if you really want to drop some money, you can even take Botox shots twice a year to halt your sweat glands -- but that will run you at least $600 per shot.

Avoid taking hot baths
Baths are useful for eliminating toxins through an increased body temperature. Unfortunately, for our purposes, the health benefits of baths are outweighed by the excessive sweating they cause for the man who likes to bathe before an important event. Going on that evidence alone, hot baths should be avoided under these circumstances. Make showers your liquid cleanser of choice, and if it's particularly hot at work and you live close by, try a shower at home on your lunch break. If your company has its own gym and shower room, that's even better. Showering is a good start, but choose cold over hot, even though we all know the -- um -- uncomfortable effects that very cold water can cause. It will keep you cool. Finally, you don't have to give up baths forever; just save them for when you get home for the night and you're ready to relax.

Avoid spicy foods
Spicy foods might be healthy and taste great, but they also make you sweat more -- this includes your favorite Mexican specialty or preferred Indian entrée. Even worse is that they make you sweat more frequently in shorter periods of time. Just say no to the spicy food and yes to the food that's a bit cooler in temperature. Next time, curb excessive sweating by opting for a sandwich instead of a burrito or a salad instead of a curry. More effective ways to avoid excessive sweatingHot drinks are also enemies when it comes to excessive sweating. They have the same effect as spicy food, which means that hot coffee is also a no-no. Trade in coffee and any hot drinks for iced beverages, juice or lemonade. This will regulate your body temperature and keep you cool.

Don't exercise before important events
Your body temperature rises when you're active, so the more intense your workout is, the more you will sweat. Exercising is a must for healthy living, but you should keep your exercising before important events to a minimum and save it until later.  If you are one to exercise before an event to keep your stress level low, here are a few suggestions to reduce excessive sweating: Your body temperature depends a lot on your head, so if you can keep it cooler, your sweat output will be less; try using a "wet necklace" and work out in a gym with plenty of fans. Take a proper shower after your workout and you will be minimizing the damage later on.

Prepare cold water for the road
There's no cold drink that's more important than water -- especially when it comes to avoiding excessive sweating. It's an essential cold liquid that regulates your body temperature and keeps your sweat cells under control. Water also calms your body during stressful situations, and lower stress means less sweat.  You should be drinking water regularly anyways, but cold water will help you on those particularly hot days. Take some in a thermos and if you run out, just refill at the office water cooler or buy bottled spring water. If there's no store in walking range, a vending machine will do the trick. Keep some cold water close by and your pores will thank you.
on the goArrive early to cool down .If you regularly rush to work or other important events, break out of the habit. Instead, get in the habit of leaving early so there's plenty of time to get where you need to go. This is important for controlling excessive sweating on two fronts. First, it will keep your anxiety and stress level low, and your exercise level will be reduced. Think of it as the difference between running a marathon and walking around the block -- that's a lot less sweat. By arriving early, you're serving the dual purpose of controlling your sweat through reduced exercise and stress.  With the extra time on your hands, you can use it to relax and have some cold water or use the bathroom to prepare.

Prepare in the bathroom
When you're in a crunch, the bathroom at work or at an event is a good place to do some last-minute maintenance. Changing clothes and washing your face with cold water are both viable ways to clean up any excess sweat in the bathroom, and you can also apply some new deodorant -- if needed.  Some final notes on staying sweat-freeIf you don't have any deodorant from home, there are some good over-the-counter solutions that can give you some assistance in high-sweat situations. Check in at a pharmacy or grocery store and look for one with aluminium chloride as the active ingredient. This substance is the key to blocking sweat pores and stopping excessive sweating, so if you find a brand that uses it, you're off to a good start. You can also look for a deodorant that reduces your sweat level while also adding a pleasing aroma to your natural body odor. With a fresh stick in your pocket, you can make the most of your bathroom break.

Carry an extra shirt
If it's hot outside, you should assume that you'll need to change your shirt later in the day. Keep a change of clothes with you and wear the shirt you want to end up in last. What you wear to begin with is also essential for controlling your sweat output. If it's too tight, your skin won’t get enough air circulating around it, which will consequently induce sweat. Not only does it induce excessive sweating, it also makes you sweat faster. Wear loose-fitting, cotton-based clothing; this gives your skin a chance to breathe. As far as colors go, lighter is better because any sweat patches will be less visible.

Make periodic stops in air-conditioned venues
Keeping cool can also apply to your journey and not just your event destination. Just because it's hot outside, doesn't mean you need to spend the entire travel time outdoors. If you're walking, you can walk through a mall or a few air-conditioned stores on the way to work or to your event. This will keep you cool without making you late, as long as you don't start taking in the sights. It also helps to have a cool home to leave from. If you don't currently have your own air conditioner, it might be something to look into. At the very least, make sure you have a fan to lower the temperature whenever possible. It will come in handy and you won't be spending your hot days wishing you had one.

Avoid stressful travel routes
Stress and anxiety have a direct effect on your body's sweat production. Look at it this way: You don't want to be stressed out or anxious on a day-to-day basis, so any sweat that appears as a result is unnecessary and excessive. With that in mind, it's important to focus on how to keep sweat levels low. One easy stress-reducer is to ensure that your travel routes to work or to events are low-stress. Road-rage highways and clogged intersections aren't your friend, and neither are crowded commuter buses and trains. Based on this, you should schedule your departure times and your travel methods accordingly so that you can minimize the crowds and the potential stress. Taking a relaxing journey will keep you in a positive mindframe and keep you from any excessive sweating.Don’t sweat itNo one likes to sweat, so stay in control of excessive sweating by taking note of our preparation techniques and applying them (and some suitable deodorant) to your daily routines. On the off-chance that you're caught in a hot day and you need an instant no-sweat fix, you're covered with these on-the-go tips. Next time you're out, leave the heavy sweating to someone else and enjoy your stress-free and sweat-free day.
