AmorePacific, Korea’s largest cosmetics company by revenue has set out to become one of the top 100 global brands by 2020 and lead in the world’s skin care industry as the “Asian Beauty Creator.”

AmorePacific to showcase skincare at its best

Already well-known in many parts of Asia and gradually expanding sales of its high-end products in developed markets, AmorePacific looks for good opportunities to present its advanced dermatological technology. With a firm foothold to move forward the beauty specialist will be a central player in the 22nd World Congress of Dermatology, which will be held between May 24 and 29 in Seoul.

The parent company of skincare brand Sulwhasoo is sponsoring and participating in the quadrennial conference joined by prominent dermatologists from home and abroad. Korea is the second Asian country to host this event after Japan hosted one in Tokyo in 1982.

Among the participants the cosmetics giant says that it plans to present the largest number of research papers on dermatology which include research on the effects of the firm’s three major ingredients ? beans, ginseng and green tea ? on human skin and another on the aging of Asian women’s skin.

“AmorePacific aims to present the ‘Asian Beauty’ as the new standard of beauty which combines traditional features of beauty prominent in the West and different elements of beauty found in the East,” the company said in a statement.

AmorePacific says it expects to draw much interest from foreign dermatologists in Sulwhasoo’s main ingredient, ginseng, and in the Korean herbal medicine technology used in cosmetics.

While running a booth displaying its major brands including Laneige and Mamonde during the conference, AmorePacific is holding a satellite symposium titled “New Insights in Skin Aging for Asian Beauty” through which it hopes to build a network made up of overseas dermatologists.

The symposium will be held between 4:45 and 6:45 p.m. on May 25 invites some 400 domestic and foreign dermatologists to discuss a wide range of topics from aging and sensitivity of particularly Asian skin to the anti-aging effects of ginseng’s saponin and green tea’s polyphenols on skin.

About 200 dermatologists from Latin American and Asian countries will be given a tour of AmorePacific’s research center, the firm added.

AmorePacific’s CEO Suh Kyung-bae will make a congratulatory speech at the opening ceremony of the conference on the 24th. The firm said his speech would celebrate the progress made in Korea’s dermatology studies and in technology used in skincare and cosmetics while vowing to carry on innovative dermatological research.

The 22nd World Congress of Dermatology expects about 10,000 professionals from 100 countries, and will be the largest medical conference Korea has hosted, AmorePacific said. There will be 29 plenary lectures, 79 symposia, 80 workshops and 30 seminars chaired by the Korean Dermatological Association (KDA) on medical, pediatric, surgical and cosmetic branches of dermatology.

The event will take place at Coex, a convention and exhibition center in southern Seoul, hosted by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and organized by the KDA.
