Winter brings with it the relief from the three digit sauna of the summer, but also brings with it skin conditions specific to the season. Maintenance you do on your skin should address some of the common conditions like, dry and itchy skin and often duller looking complections.
Lather offters offers a few tips to keep your skin looking heathy and feeling more moisturized while we enjoy the cooler weather.
For the face:
Look for moisturizers containing humectants which draw moisture to the skin. Lather products use hyaluronic acid - a natural component in healthy skin tissue that binds up to 1,000 times its weight in moisture. Despite the concentrated hydration you can still enjoy a light, water-baed serum to hydrate and revitalize your skin. You'll find this in products like the Moisture Magnet and Swiss Apple Wrinkle Remedy.
You can always make a hydrating mask right in your kitchen!
Mix a banana with ¼ cup of plain (not sweetened) yogurt and a tablespoon of honey. Leave on for 15 minutes. This will give enough of a mask for two people, so share with a friend. Banana is nourishing and filled with vitamins, while yogurt includes lactic acid which lightly exfoliates and improves skins appearance and texture. Honey is also a natural humectant,
For the body:
Look for oil-based moisturizers, such as lotions and crèmes containing shea butter, avocado oil, primrose oil, or almond oil. Lather has products such as Almond Milk & Honey Body Butter, which has shea butter, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and honey extract, which is another natural humectant. Highly concentrated "body butters" available at a variety of price points and with a variety of different makers typically include cocoa butter, shea butter, plus a combination of therapeutic oils including oils.
For the "inside":
Hydrate from within by drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day. To spice up the flavor of water and still hydrate the body make a fruit-infused water. Simply slice up a grapefruit or orange, place in a pitcher filled with water, and let sit in the fridge for as little as an hour to overnight. The longer you leave it there the stronger the fruit flavor. Chances are you'll drink more water and also boost your vitamin C levels which can offer additional support during flu season.
Citrus can also be used in aromatherapy to help get you through winter's shorter days and dark nights. Both orange and grapefruit essential oils have uplifting, stimulating properties, so try adding a few drops to a warm bath or unscented body lotion. You can get essential oils at most health food stores, or you can custom-blend your own beauty products at the LATHER Blending Bar, choosing from more than 25 essential oils.
