Four members of a Bruce Street family face various charges after authorities found weapons, drugs and fireworks accessible to children in their home, which was being operated as a daycare facility, police said. Joseph Sheroka Sr., 54, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and with possession of fireworks, a weapon and marijuana. Candy M. Sheroka faces the endangering and fireworks charges. Cody J. Sheroka, 19, was charged with marijuana possession, and Harley D. Sheroka, 17, was charged with weapons possession.
Police said they found the drugs, weapons and fireworks after visiting the Sheroka home as part of a larceny case involving a stolen computer. The child-endangerment charges were filed because the weapons, including a loaded handgun, were "easily accessible to small children living in the residence," a police statement said. The state Office of Children and Family Services has begun its own investigation, police said. Because the stolen computer was found at the home, charges are expected in that case as well, police said.
